• Founding: The Federation was established in 1958 (with official registration recorded on 20 February 1959) in Kolkata, West Bengal.
• Founding Vision: IPF was founded by seven stalwarts of the plastics industry: Late C. L. Gupta, Late G. Khemani, Late B. L. Pachisia, Late C. M. Srimal, Late R. G. Gupta, Late G. D. Damani, and Shri G. N. Periwal.
• Legacy: With over six decades of operation, IPF has grown from a regional body into one of the main forums for plastics in India.

• Type: It is a Nonprofit organization and a public not-for-profit company registered under ROC Kolkata.

• Sector Representation: Members range from large, medium, and tiny sector units to plastic processors, machine manufacturers, dealers, distributors, importers, brokers, and recyclers.

• Primary Objective: The federation aims to promote the plastics industry in India, with a specific focus on Eastern India.
• Government Interface: IPF acts as a crucial bridge between the Government and the Plastics Industry, advising on policies framed for the sector’s development.
• Apex Body Affiliation: IPF is a founder member of the Plastindia Foundation, the apex body of the plastics industry in India.

Major Events and Exhibitions

IPF is renowned for organizing major trade fairs that drive industry engagement:

• Indplas Series: IPF organizes the Indplas series, Eastern India’s largest international exhibition on plastics. IPF holds the distinction of organizing the first-ever plastics exhibition in India in 1981 in Kolkata.
• Indplas’27: The upcoming 11th edition (Indplas’27) is scheduled for 3rd – 6th December 2027 (with some sources citing 19–22 November 2027) at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan (Milan Mela), Kolkata.
• Expected Scale: 500+ exhibitors, 80,000+ visitors, and a 70,000 sq.m. exhibition area.
• Sister Event: Indplas is considered the sister exhibition to PLASTINDIA (held in New Delhi), with many exhibitors participating in both to consolidate market presence.
