The Comité Européen des Transmissions Oléohydrauliques et Pneumatiques (CETOP), officially known as the European Fluid Power Committee in English, is the authoritative industry body for hydraulic and pneumatic transmission technologies across Europe.
Founded in 1962, its headquarters is located in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany, with a lean core team of 1-10 staff members managing cross-regional coordination work.
Membership & Industry Representation
CETOP operates through a network of 18 national fluid power associations across European countries, which act as the bridge between the committee and local industry players.
- It represents over 1,000 companies in total, covering the vast majority of core enterprises in the European fluid power sector: around 80%-90% of active companies in most member countries are covered by its network.
- The member entities are mainly hydraulic and pneumatic component manufacturers, with a small proportion of dealers, employing nearly 70,000 people in total and contributing a combined market value of approximately 13 billion euros to the European economy.
Core Functions & Standardization Work
CETOP’s primary mandate is to promote interoperability, safety, and technical consistency across the European fluid power industry, with its work focusing on three key areas:
1.Standard development for component interfaces
It defines standardized dimensions, port spacing, and mounting interfaces for hydraulic valves and manifolds (classified as CETOP 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 10, corresponding to nominal sizes from NG06 to NG32, supporting flow rates from 10 L/min to over 200 L/min) to ensure components from different manufacturers can be directly interchanged without system redesign.
These standards are highly aligned with ISO international standards (such as ISO 4401) and often serve as supplementary practical guidelines for valve interface compatibility, while also referencing North America’s NFPA standards to support global component matching.
2.Technical protocol & certification management
It formulates unified test protocols for fluid power products, and promotes compliance verification covering test reports, material traceability, quality system certification, and technician training to ensure product safety and reliability.
3.Industry coordination & knowledge sharing
It releases industry technical white papers, organizes training programs for hydraulic technicians, and coordinates technical exchanges between national associations to support the application of fluid power technologies in industrial manufacturing, mobile machinery (construction, agriculture, material handling), and energy systems.
Alignment with International Standards
CETOP’s standards are designed to be compatible with both ISO global standards and regional regulations, making it a key reference for European and global fluid power system designers, maintenance teams, and procurement professionals. Its guidelines help reduce system downtime, simplify spare parts inventory management, and lower long-term operation costs for end users.
